University of Craiova

The University of Craiova in Romania was initially established by Law No. 138 on April 25, 1947, approved by King Michael I and published in the Official Gazette of the Kingdom of Romania on the same date. At its inception, the university comprised four faculties: Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Economic Sciences, and Agriculture. However, due to the difficult post-war conditions, only the Faculty of Agriculture started its activity initially.

In 1965, through Decision No. 894 issued by the Council of Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Romania, the University of Craiova was officially founded by merging seven faculties under one administration: Mathematics, Chemistry, Philology, Electrical Engineering, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Economics. This marked the university’s formal establishment as one of the oldest higher education institutions in Romania.

Today, the University of Craiova includes 12 faculties offering Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs across various fields such as Engineering, Sciences, Economics, Law, Arts, and Social Sciences. It is recognized as a major academic and research center in the Oltenia region of southwestern Romania.
