Titu Maiorescu University was established in Bucharest, Romania, on September 20, 1990. It initially began as the "Independent Titu Maiorescu University Association" under Law no. 21/1924 and obtained legal status on January 25, 1991.
The university was founded by a group of faculty members led by Professor Avram Filibaș, who served as the university’s rector until his passing in 2006.
In 2002, Titu Maiorescu University was officially recognized as a public legal entity under Law no. 239.
