Established by Presidential Decree No. 430 of 2004, as a private university under supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and its own independent legal body.
Teaching began in the Faculties of Computer Science and Business Management in the 2005/2006 academic year, following Ministerial Decree No. 2079 dated 7 August 2005.
In the 2006/2007 academic year, Presidential Decree No. 350/2006 established the Faculties of Mass Communication and Engineering, and teaching in these faculties started based on Ministry Decree No. 3033 dated 30 November 2006.
In the 2009/2010 academic year, Presidential Decree No. 301/2009 created the Faculties of Pharmacy and Nursing, with teaching commencing following Ministry Decree No. 3195 dated 7 October 2009.
